a trying week
this week has been the bizarre combination of bad things made somewhat better by other things, though really, you would just rather the bad thing hadn't happened. i'm not sure what in the world is up with life currently, but good lord is it stressful for many concerned. i have RL friends who are dealing with all manner of things that range from huge emotional trauma to large physical trauma to financial trauma. am doing my best to support everyone in any way i can while also taking care of myself and my own troubles.

in the land of jay of el things continue to go from bad to worse, with lj staffers saying everything from "it's not a crime to want to be thin" (in relation to pro-anorexia communities hosted on their servers) to "we will report illegal activity to authorities" (implying that the fan artist they banned was reported as trafficking child porn) to "anything linked to even if it is offsite that the lj abuse team considers offensive will cause the linking user to be banned" (which is just one of many things that is expressly against their current ToS).

as a result, i have mirrored everything (yes, the entire journal thanks to [info]antennapedia and the wonderful tool that s/he made to migrate with a mac (which is available and explained in this post)) on greatest journal. plan on hand mirroring just the fic on journalfen (and insanejournal maybe). no, i don't really expect to get banned from lj, but am pretty disgusted with them at this point. have a vague plan to continue with my personal stuff here, and put my fan stuff elsewhere, but really, kind of waiting to see what happens.

to top off everything else uncertain and difficult in my current sphere of existence, i talked to my mac doc only to discover that my issues with my laptop are most likely Extremely Bad Symptoms that will cost Lots of Money to fix. however, after having a V. Bad Night of it due to that revelation (because it would mean trying to decide whether it was worth it to spend almost as much as this nearly 2yr-old machine is worth to fix, or spend over twice that to get the equivalent new version and try to find out if my current insurance covered the repairs) a conversation with [info]edm this am made me remember that, due to (if i remember correctly) one of my male relatives, i was smart enough to buy apple care and it's all covered under that for another year. so, still not good, but come monday (because it is already the weekend here) i'll call an authorised apple care mac shop and see where to go from here. until that time my mac doc said not to move my mac to delay the inevitable. so it's sitting on the desk until it goes to the mac hospital.

i don't really mean to whine so, it gets tedious. will stop talking about the lj thing really. will warn before i'm computerless and for how long i will be such.

so good things include

  • getting a journalfen account from a lovely random account holder
  • having applecare to deal with the horrid mac issues
  • having ijournal remember the half-written post when i closed it accidentally
  • having [info]antennapedia write a fabulous migration program.
  • getting to spend time with friends (even if their lives aren't the best right now, because i love them all dearly and want to do what i can to help)

tell me what made your day.
